Talks 2016

The festival features a number of talks by renowned walkers, campaigners, archaeologists and authors, who will share their knowledge and love of the area.

The talks all take place in Settle. There is a small charge to cover the costs of room hire.

Settle-Carlisle Railway 1850-1990: decisions, decisions, decisions
Talk by Martin Pearson.

Join Martin Pearson for a unique perspective into understanding WHY the national and local decisions were taken that led to the building of the Settle-Carlisle Railway. A story about the twists and turns in its fortunes, including the successful attempt to resist closure in the 1980s.

A talk by Dr David Johnson.
Teusday, April 26, 19.30. Friends Meeting House, Settle. £3.00 includes light refreshments.
Looks at historical former inns, how they differed and what they offered, and also how ancient legislation contrived to control alehouses and inns. 
Numbers in the venue are limited but tickets can be bought in advance at ingleborougharchaeologygroup.org.uk  Unsold tickets will be available on the door.
